what a year its been….

People have died, close family members are losing things that matter to them and even though it is just ‘stuff’ – ‘stuff’ matters, other close family members have to sit at home knowing their daughters are 1) trapped in Brisbane and 2) have just been though surgery, close blogging friends have lost people, are very unwell and also trapped in the floods and everyone I have no words.

I am sorry but my words have drifted and gone.

So instead I urge you all to donate to the flood appeal if you haven’t already, or if you can’t see your way clear, or just would find them useful – buy a pair of these :- where, amazingly, 100% of all online purchases go to QLD flood appeal, so shop for next christmas, for birthday pressies, for anything. Useful and you have helped.

and in words taken from one of the best blogs out there – Under the Yardarm

Things that make you go hmmmm….

Hopefully I now have you all singing in your head, that line on repeat with a female backing track in your head now, remembering bodysuits and Very Wide Headbands* – and if you are looking at that thinking “WHAT is she talking about???” Then I shall be over here blushing in the corner at my age.

I like Wednesday now because Nay over at Under The Yardarm gives me inspiration to write a non-unhappy post.

This week, while I haven’t mustered “Happy” I have mustered “Hmmm” which right now is enough.

So – I am Hmmm about…

1. Good Podiatrists who look after you when you freak out in surgery, give you a great PILE of dressings to take home then do follow up appointments and take paranoid phone calls for free untill your foot is healed :)

2. Making a new friend online through blogging on one of my loneliest days. (If you want good blog to read try I Know I Need To Stop Talking ’tis one of the thing s that has kept me afloat this last week, and will cause spontanious fits of laughter.

3. Realising what a great twitter community I have with people willing to help on my crap days, when Bub 1 forgets to do her homework (kudos to new twit buddies and old for that one – in particular @carlylloyd and @gabfran) and just still there in general even though I have been such a crap Tweep.

And that will do, for now, there are my things that made me go hmmm and think that life really wasn’t as terrible as it feels right now.  And of course there are many more people and situations that have helped but right now my brain is screaming MOULD so I will leave you with those three – not the mould unusable bedroom rant :)

*Oh dear DOC Knows the verses….and is SINGING them..what have I done…

**Hmmm being somewhere between Okay and actual happy

Filed under borrowed from another blog, bub 1, DOC, down day, Thank you

The post which I forgot to title – oops – ahem – “If I Were”

If I were a month, I would be Febuary Crackling heat and suntan at the beach, or late April red brown leaves, wood smoke and crisp mornings.

If I were a day of the week, I would be Thursday night, a preview..

If I were a time of day, evening just after the first stars or the darkest before dawn.

If I were a planet, I would be Earth – It is known and safe and quite enough for me.

If I were an animal, I would be an Elephant, gentle, loving, family grouped, lost without each other .

If I were a direction, I would be walking blindfolded where north is actually south.

If I were a piece of furniture, I would be a window seat in the sunlight, warmth and reading and still just glass separating me from the world.

If I were a liquid, I would be Chai – warm and spicy .

If I were a gemstone, I would be Peridot or Garnet.

If I were a tree, I would be a Morton Bay Fig – exposed roots and soldiering on against all odds..

If I were a tool, I would be (giggle) The leader of the opposition? No, Ahem, Knitting needles – the closest I get to tools or, if one were to consider it so, a voice.

If I were a flower, I would be Jasmine.

If I were a kind of weather, I would be – see the seasons.

If I were a musical instrument, I’d be a piano and an acoustic guitar.

If I were a colour, I would be black or blood red.

If I were an emotion, I would be all of them, all at once.

If I were a fruit, I would be a Mango – Summer, sweet, soft and too much in large doses.

If I were a sound, I would be rain on a tin roof or a pure piano solo from the upstairs flat.

If I were an element, I would be earth that holds solid no matter what is done to it.

If I were a car, I’d be a Toyota Corolla – 1978 model, solid and keeps going with only a few repairs.

If I were a food, I would be…any ideas anyone? .

If I were a place, I would be a beach backed by fields and a forest.

If I were a material, I would be knitted in the early 1900’s – many found threads coming together and fraying apart but still a piece of cloth.

If I were a taste, I would be hot dark chilli chocolate – bitter sweet and warming.

If I were a scent, I would be Jasmine.

If I were an object, I would be a stage, my true home.

If I were a body part, I’d be eyes, the only part of me I love.

If I were a facial expression, I would be a quizzically sad smile.

If I were a pair of shoes, I would be (too easy) Converse runners, the easier for living in.

Seen at Naomi’s Under the Yardarm and Thea’s Do I really Want to Blog? Loved it – but much harder than I thought :)

Saturday Blog

I know, I know I said every day for a week, but then the week happened, so I’m trying again…here we have Saturday’s pictures – Storms and Sunshine – I couldn’t just pick one. Storms – well very obvious, considering the weather and Sunshine to balance it out, to add the happy :)

for some odd reason one size down from this ^ is tiny – so I went with the larger – pretty pictures deserve to be seen. All taken from photobucket- various sources.

Today can get humped

Today has sucked, in the hellish it deserves a whole blog of its own kind of way, not even in a little bit tolerable way, just bloody awful and scary and made me realise how alone me and Bub 1 and Bub 2 are up here is Sydney, anything happens to DOC, unless my one friend is available we are on our own to muddle through as best we can, I’m not so sure I can deal with that… So I need some happy. So when I went to Under the Yardarm and saw the hump day happiness post I thought well yeah, why not, three things that have made me happy…so here we go….

1. I am happy that nothing serious was wrong with DOC and all the scary drama with the Ambulance and waiting and waiting and waiting and calling on friend, and wrapping myself in hand-me-downs from my Mum and a scarf from my aunt because I felt so alone and being strong for the kids and terrified in the bathroom is over (all on very little sleep)…and that it is just bruising and rest and Neurofen will fix it. That makes me happy.

2. Looking through the pictures of real-life weddings at “100 Layer Cake” and what a nice surprise finding them was ( I clicked through to it expecting a cooking website- and ended up spending *cough*three*cough* hours there on Saturday) But these pictures are just so lovely, so real and the people are happy and safe and peaceful and joyful and IN LOVE – see….

And because you can Never, Ever have Too Much love on a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day, where you just kept thinking of that poster – you know the one “ Keep Calm and Carry On” – here is another image….

i want to feel like this

There shall be another blog on this website and the things it made me realise but it doesn’t count under happiness exactly…

3. That my friends on Twitter and FB and in the blogging world still want to know me and still care about me as I drop in and out of the ‘net world. Thank You. You make me feel not so horribly alone….

Now to go and have a good cry into a pillow…we are all safe and under a stable roof in the wild and wet weather, nothing terrible is happening and I now know that I need to work on a disaster plan. We’re all okay, our little conglomerate -like-family-thing. That too is something to be happy for. And for now I can just STOP.
